Grain size trend analysis for sediment characteristic of Cirebon Waters

Abstract This research aims to understand the sediment characteristic of Cirebon waters using a grain size trend analysis (GSTA). The GSTA can be used determine physical characteristics and demonstrate sedimentary processes. A total 32 seabed surface sediments were analyzed by measuring grains Mastersizer 2000 instrument calculating parameters such as mean size, sorting, skewness, kurtosis geometric methods in Gradistat program. Analysis showed that Waters are dominated silt with ranges from 7.765 33.43 µm (very coarse fine silt). skewness values indicated an increase current energy transport rate southwest northeast part Waters. Sediments poorly sorted, is predominantly mesokurtic type. All deposited deposition mechanism pelagic suspension affected slow quiet waters. Granulometric analyses become good proxy give fundamental information on dynamics.
